The Ideas Waiting for Us
I am at Disney this week, surrounded by reminders of what happens when we act on our ideas.
Looking around, I keep thinking about what this place looked like before the castles, rides, music, and memories. Before families traveled from around the world to be here, there was Florida land with swamps and forests. Walt Disney envisioned something extraordinary, and his brother Roy and thousands of others helped bring that vision to life.
Now we walk through what they imagined. Literally swamp land turned to, “The Most Magical Place on Earth!” :)
That thought inspires me. We are experiencing something that once existed only in someone’s mind. The plans became places. The ideas became experiences. Today, we get to make memories inside the vision people were willing to work for.
How many ideas are sitting inside us, waiting for that same opportunity?
The book we keep talking about. The business we want to build. The gathering we wish existed. The change we want to make in our home, our community, or ourselves.
We can picture them. We can feel the possibility. Yet we keep waiting for more time, more confidence, more money, or some sign that we are ready.
Meanwhile, the idea stays an idea.
Being here reminds me that creating something requires us to participate. We have to make the call, write the page, draw the plan, ask for help, or put the first date on the calendar. Then we have to keep showing up as we learn what works.
We do not need to know how to build the entire dream before we begin. We need to know what we can do next.
And we need people. Looking around Disney, I see the result of countless people contributing their skills to something larger than any one person could create. Our ideas deserve that kind of support, too. Sharing them gives others the opportunity to help us bring them to life.
We may never build the next Disney World, who knows maybe we will! Either way, we can create something that makes life more meaningful, joyful, or connected for the people who experience it.
That matters!
I want to leave here with more than memories. I want to leave with movement. I want to give one of my ideas the time and attention it needs to become something real.
What idea keeps coming back to us?
Who might benefit if we created it?
And what can we do today to begin?
Somewhere in our lives, there is something we have imagined that we could one day be living.
